Reset this PC resets nothing on hotpatched enterprise devices
What broke
The February 2026 hotpatch for Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 broke the Reset this PC option — and the March hotpatch (KB5079420) shipped with the same bug intact. Choosing either “Keep my files” or “Remove everything” sends the machine to a black screen before silently aborting and rebooting back to the desktop with “There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made.” No data is lost, but the recovery path you’d reach for in an emergency simply doesn’t work. The issue only affects Windows Autopatch-managed commercial devices with hotpatch enabled — consumer PCs are unaffected. The fix required installing a separate March Safe OS Dynamic Update (KB5079471) rather than being bundled into the next hotpatch.
