Microsoft sign-ins break everywhere, Windows blames your internet connection

The March 2026 Patch Tuesday update broke Microsoft account sign-in across Teams Free, OneDrive, Edge, Word, and Excel. The failure came with a deliberately misleading error — “You’ll need the Internet for this. It doesn’t look like you’re connected to the Internet” — even on fully connected machines, sending users and IT admins on pointless network troubleshooting dead-ends. Microsoft confirmed the issue and released an out-of-band fix (KB5085516) on March 23, nearly two weeks after the damage was done.
