Patch Tuesday crashes Arm productivity and RGB gaming sessions
What broke
August’s security update left Microsoft Teams and the new Outlook unable to launch, or liable to close immediately, on some Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 Arm devices, including Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7 systems. Freshly installed or newly imaged PCs without current Microsoft Store packages are the likeliest casualties; Microsoft’s workaround is to update the Auto Super Resolution Package to version 1.0.19.0 or later. The same update also triggered freezes, crashes, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION errors, and occasional surprise reboots in ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and THE FINALS on systems carrying inpoutx64, a driver installed by some RGB lighting hardware. Microsoft later concluded that the gaming failure was rooted in the third-party driver rather than Windows itself and deployed a block to stop it loading, an admirably technical way to confirm that installing the update was still when the games stopped working.
